Clubs and activities that draw students from all grade levels meet at noon or after school. These include popular groups such as Global Minds, SRC, Yearbook Committee, Drama, Library Club, Art Club, Band, and others. As new clubs, activities, and teams develop, announcements will be made. Students need to listen carefully to morning announcements, so that they are aware of meetings, tryouts and audition times. As well, this information is frequently posted on our school website. We are very open to suggestions for new clubs. Students are invited to submit ideas for activities, and we will work to help set these up.

Gardening Club – Gardening club meets Thursday afterschool, 3-4 pm in the art room. New members always welcome. Please see Mrs. Craik or Mrs. Brown for details

GSMS DJ and Tech Crew – members help set up audio equipment for our assemblies or play music at the dances. Please sign up at the office if you are interested. First meeting is October 19.

GSMS Gender and Sexuality Alliance – This club provides brings students together to support each other, provides a safe space to socialize, empowers students to advocate for gender and LGBTQ+ rights in school and educate peers. GSA will meet Thursday during lunch and options. New members always welcome. Please see Mrs. Cheney or Mrs. Falconer for more information.

Band – Senior Band is intended for woodwind, brass and percussion players with some experience.  Senior Band will begin Monday, October 16th, 4-5 pm. Students may go home afterschool and return for practice, or they may stay afterschool in the band room for personal practice time. Students must behave responsibly and work independently if staying afterschool.  The cost of Senior Band is $165 for the year. Beginner /Jr. Band will meet Thursday afternoons 4-5 pm, beginning November 2nd. The cost of Jr. Band is $155. New musicians are welcome.

Global Minds – Global Minds is a club that brings students together to celebrate diversity, share and learn about other cultures. Grade 6 Global Minds will meet in room A34 every other Wednesday (beginning Oct 18) during grade 6 lunch and options. Bring your lunch and bring your friends. New members always welcome. Grade 7 will meet every other week in room A32 (beginning October 25). Stay tuned for grade 8 start date.

Drama – If you are interested in acting and want to join drama then please attend the information session held October 18 in room 210. Auditions are the week of Oct 23. For more information, please see Mr. Titus.

Speed Cubing – grade 6 speed cubing club meets in room A33 on Wednesdays during grade 6 options. For more information, please see Mrs. Robinson.

Dungeons and Dragons – D&D club meets Monday afterschool, 3-4pm in room 210. There is limited space but if you are interested in joining, please see Mr. Titus.

Chess – Whether you are new to the game or want to learn to play, all are welcome to come play. Chess club begins November 6th. It will meet on Monday afterschool 3pm-4pm in room A23. For more information, please see Mr. Boudreau

Grade 6 Dance Club – This is a student led club. If you like to make up dances and explore new music, then you are welcome to sign up and join us. The sign-up sheet is outside the office. Dance Club will meet during grade 6 options in room 306 on Thursdays.

Magic the Gathering Club. Students who sign up for this club will be doing group play sessions, tournaments, and deck building. The club will happen from 3-4 after school on Thursdays, beginning October 26th. Magic the Gathering club will happen in room 301 which is Mr. Foreman’s room. The sign-up sheet is outside the office.

Art Club – Art club meets every other Monday afterschool. The first meeting is Monday, October 30th. Meet in the art room, 3-4 pm. New members welcome. See Ms. Craik for more information.

Sewing Club – Sewing club meets every other Monday afterschool. The first meeting is Monday, November 6h. Meet in the art room, 3-4 pm. New members welcome. See Ms. Craik for more information.

Project LIT is a book club that meets once a month. It’s an opportunity for students to come together and celebrate great books. We read and discuss books that spark important, necessary conversations. Books that inspire us to make a difference. Project LIT GSMS is proud to be part of the Project LIT Community, an international literacy movement with over 1900 chapters in middle schools & high schools across Canada, the U.S. and around the world.Β Project Lit will meet once a month on Mondays at options: beginning Nov 6. Grade 6/7 will meet in Mrs. Collicott’s room A32 and Grade 8 will meet in Mrs. Kelly’s room #303. New members welcome.
